EGFR and non-small cell lung carcinoma: The selection of optimal specific treatments for patients diagnosed with NSCLC has become increasingly complex as more treatment options are developed and shown to be effective for specific disease indications.2, 3, 4, 5 For example, for patients with a sensitising (L858R/exon 19 deletion, with or without a concomitant T790M mutation) epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation with stage IV non-squamous NSCLC and a performance status score of 0-2 who have not had previous systemic therapy, a third-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) is the optimal first-line treatment.2
