In this context, it is interesting to note that both proteins have recently been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases (VCF1: amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; VCF2: Alzheimer’s disease), based on systematic yeast two-hybrid screening and computationally predicted neurodegenerative disease-associated protein clusters (Haenig et al., 2020). This evidence concerns the gene VCF1 and neurodegenerative disease.
