Finally, it is known that different calcium-binding proteins can influence the susceptibility of neurons to neurodegeneration (Fairless et al., 2019), and considering the expression of SCGN in the hippocampus, it is not surprising that it plays a role in neuronal resistance in Alzheimer’s disease (Attems et al., 2008). Here, SCGN is linked to early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
