Cisplatin-based chemotherapy impairs endothelial function and causes elevation of endothelial and pro-inflammatory acting proteins [C-reactive protein, von Willebrand factor, plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1), and tissue-type plasminogen activator], whereas patients with elevated PAI-1 are in a higher risk of developing metabolic syndrome (126).
