Knockdown of METTL1 caused the ribosome to pause at the codon decoded by m7G tRNA, which significantly reduced the translation efficiency of RPTOR (regulatory-related protein of mTOR complex 1) and improved the phosphorylation level of its downstream target gene ULK1, leading to increased cell death and autophagy in ESCC cells and slowing down the migration and progress of ESCC [87, 88].
