PICALM and Alzheimer disease: These include phosphatidylinositol-binding clathrin assembly protein (PICALM), sortilin-related receptor 1 (SORL1), clusterin (ApoJ), bridging integrator 1 (BIN1), ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, and ApoE, which is mainly responsible for the intercellular transport of cholesterol in the brain, with the ApoE4 isoform being the most common element associated with the sporadic form of AD [1–6].
