A study based on Clinical Practice Research Datalink and Hospital Episode Statistics with data from 6964 patients with SCD followed up for nearly 7 years in England supports a significant association between an increase in Hb concentration of 1 g/dL with the reduction in the risk for 6 common EOD events (stroke, leg ulcer, PH, CKD, end-stage renal failure, and acute chest syndrome) [14]. This evidence concerns the gene GSTM1 and acute chest syndrome.
