In a separate study, it was found that administering phloretin increased the expression of genes responsible for fatty acid oxidation, specifically recombinant carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1a (Cpt1a) and Cpt1b, while downregulating genes associated with obesity such as MCP‐1, peroxisome proliferators‐activated receptors γ2 (PPARγ2), and Mgat‐1 (Alsanea et al., 2017). Here, CPT1A is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
