The other 12 forms of monogenic hypertension are salt dependent and present as low-renin hypertension; 5 of them are caused by primary hyperaldosteronism, 5 by mineralocorticoid action caused by other steroid hormones or hypersensitive mineralocorticoid receptor (MR), and 2 by defects in sodium channels: epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) and sodium chloride cotransporter (NCC).
