A series of studies have highlighted the influence of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the SIRT1 gene on various aspects of T2D, including its risk, insulin resistance, diabetes-related traits and associated complications [9], for example, T2DM-related coronary heart disease (rs16924934 and rs3818291 in the Han Chinese population [10] and rs7896005 [10, 11]) and diabetic kidney disease (rs10823108, rs3818292 and rs7069102) [12–14]. Here, SIRT1 is linked to diabetes mellitus.
