We speculate that Ca2+ channel blocking, combined with hydroxynonenal detoxification by ALDH2 activation, may be a more relevant therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer’s disease, compared to the cathepsin inhibition (Anekonda and Quinn, 2011; Popugaeva and Bezprozvanny, 2013; Yamashima, 2020b). The gene discussed is CTSS; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
