Since inadequate collateral blood vessel formation in response to hypoxia and reduced wound healing increases cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and the risk of amputations, respectively, the observed tendency for VEGF to increase in response to HIIE, as noted in our study, with its level staying elevated at the 24 h, seems to be a beneficial observation in patients with T1D, in whom angiogenesis may be insufficient. Here, VEGFA is linked to type 1 diabetes mellitus.
