We found that EVs collected from BC patients at the time of diagnosis were enriched in mRNAs involved in translation, protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum, mRNA catabolic processes, etc. They were also strongly enriched with mitochondrially encoded mRNAs such as NADH dehydrogenase subunits, ATP synthases, and cytochrome C oxidases that are not expected to be released into the cytoplasm of healthy cells, thus raising the question of how these mRNAs get packaged into EVs.
