Altered expression of miR-142 in obesity has been reported in a small number of studies, but given that its main target is the inhibition of the TGF-β/Smad pathway, which is involved in the regulation of WAT adipogenesis and the development of its dysfunction by enhancing the expression of fibroblast signature genes, inhibition of BAT adipogenesis [45], it can be considered as a candidate for antifibrogenic miRs, which are important for maintaining the metabolic health of BAT [45]. The gene discussed is TGFB1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
