Notably, a VD responsive element (VDRE) sequence is present in the promoter region of the HLA DRB1*15 gene; this suggests a role of the VD/vitamin D receptor (VDR) axis in regulating the transcription of this HLA molecule, possibly bridging MS environmental and genetic risk factors [10,11,12].
