The highest titers of IgAs against hemoglobin-acetaldehyde (Hb-Ach) adducts were also observed in the alcoholics with liver disease (median 0.25 U/L [IQR 0.01–0.48 U/L]), being significantly higher than those in the alcoholics without liver disease (median 0.09 U/L [IQR 0.04–0.16 U/L], p = 0.006) or in the healthy controls (median 0.05 U/L [IQR 0.01–0.10 U/L], p = 0.0005) (Figure 1B).
