NLRP3 and acute respiratory distress syndrome: Overall, the present results show that in patients with persistent radiological features of the disease and thus with a persistent inflammatory stimulus at four months after the acute phase of COVID-19-related ARDS, a down-regulation of NLRP3-inflammasome-related miRNAs, such as miR-17-5p, miR-146a-3p, and miR223-3p could predispose to the development of the fibrosis-like radiological pattern.
