MUC16 and ovarian carcinoma: Carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) is a classical tumor marker for the diagnosis and monitoring of ovarian tumors.[7] Recently, several studies have indicated that serum CA125 level is related to the prognosis of various malignancies, including ovarian cancer[8] and cervical adenocarcinoma.[9] In 2012, Michiyo et al[10] evaluated the expression of MUC16 (a glycoprotein that carries the peptide epitope CA125) in 63 ICC–mass-forming type tissues, and the results showed that MUC16/CA125 expression in tumor tissues was a prognostic predictor for poor survival of ICC–mass-forming type.
