In situ hybridization similarly demonstrated increased neuronal expression of b2M mRNA in MS patient cingulate cortex (MS = 4.009 ± 1.085; control = 0.402 ± 0.036; Figure 7C) as well as in temporal cortex from patients with Alzheimer disease (AD = 1.921 ± 0.2769; control = 0.335 ± 0.168; Supplemental Figure 12), in line with recent reports implicating CD8+ T cells in the pathogenesis of AD (48–50). Here, CD8A is linked to Alzheimer disease.
