IL6 and atherosclerosis: In enrichment analyses of top 55 BMI-associated proteins that passed Bonferroni-corrected threshold in CKB, there was strong evidence of GO enrichment for proteins in biological processes related to atherosclerosis (e.g. macrophage derived foam cell differentiation, lipid metabolism), inflammation (IL-6 production), immune function (e.g. T cell activation, mononuclear cell proliferation, immune effector process), and other biological processes (e.g. cell–cell adhesion, exocrine system development, cytokine-mediated signaling pathways; Fig. 4a).
