Berauer et al. (2019) also showed that PKD1L1 is strongly expressed in the bile duct epithelium in liver tissue collected from an unaffected infant and two patients affected by non-cholestatic liver disease. Of note, the expression of PKD1L1 was weak or absent in liver tissue from a patient with BASM. The specific molecular roles for PKD1L1 in mammalian cholangiocyte development and BA are currently unknown. The gene discussed is PKD1L1; the disease is liver disorder.
