Specific proteins in blood have been employed as biomarkers to predict the preclinical stage of AD (cognitively unimpaired while proteinopathies develop), such as: Aβ42, Aβ40, Aβ42/Aβ40, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), total tau (t-tau), phosphorylated tau (p-tau181, p-tau231), and neurofilament light (NFL)13–20. Here, GFAP is linked to Alzheimer disease.
