Dziedzic et al. (20) investigated the clinical significance of the immune status in the development of nosocomial infections in brain-injured patients, where the critical abnormalities include an overall reduction in helper and regulatory T-cell frequencies, reduced proliferation of cytotoxic T cells, reductions in NK and B cell numbers, and increased production of IL-6 and IL-10 from monocytes. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and nosocomial infection.
