The only published study, performed in the obesity-resistant 129Sv mice, supports this prediction [37], but we have also seen that in the FVB/N strain, the absence of UCP1 leads to a decrease in food intake of a cafeteria diet such that the mice in this way become protected against obesity (our unpublished observation, 2009). The gene discussed is UCP1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
