PRL and rheumatoid arthritis: The addition of prolactin to synovial cells in rats suffering from RA was associated with increased production of proteolytic enzymes increasing cytokine production and thus causing cartilage destruction, suggesting the pro-inflammatory role of prolactin in RA.9 Bromocriptine leading to reduction of humoral and cell-mediated immunity and the benefit reversible with addition of prolactin was proven way back by Nagy et al.10 in 1978.
