Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) is a member of the PPAR family of ligand-inducible transcription factors that have emerged as an attractive pharmacological target for drugs to treat various metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance (Xu et al., 2003), type II diabetes (Saltiel and Olefsky, 1996), and chronic inflammation (Buckingham, 2005). The gene discussed is PPARG; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
