In this study, we found that the expression of cochlin was dramatically upregulated in the rodent myopia model as early as 1 w post induction (Fig. 3a–c); moreover, the unique position where it resided, the interface between the retinal photoreceptor and RPE (Fig. 3m), rendered it an ideal candidate for the molecular cue that could respond to the blurred image sensed by the photoreceptors, the first-order neurons in retina and transfer the myopigenic information to the RPE, the next relay station. Here, COCH is linked to myopia.
