CD4 and infection: The spatial enrichment of LCs in skin biopsies from naïve and infected animals was independently validated using smFISH, which confirms the accumulation of Cd207+ LCs and Cd4+ T cells around the perifollicular spaces in the epidermis/dermis in naïve samples, but were also detected in the adipose tissue within the hypodermis during infection (Fig. 3D), consistent with previous studies demonstrating that CD207+ LCs display migratory behaviour during infection29.
