Our study confirmed the beneficial effects of TRPV1 activation on synaptic structure in a mouse model of tauopathy by showing restored PSD95 and MAP2 levels, as well as retained dendritic spine densities in mice treated with capsaicin, which may directly underlie the recovery of cognitive ability impaired by tau accumulation in mouse hippocampus. The gene discussed is DLG4; the disease is tauopathy.
