MYC can have many disparate functions in cancer, which may depend on 1) the degree to which MYC is overexpressed, 2) which promoters and enhancers it binds, 3) if MYC cooperates with other transcription factors such as MIZ1 to inhibit expression of certain genes, and 4) if MYC strongly regulates pause release [27,30,50–53]. The gene discussed is MYC; the disease is cancer.
