The BEACON trial was the first randomised phase III trial to demonstrate significantly longer overall survival and a higher response rate for the combination treatment based on anti-EGFR antibody cetuximab and BRAFV600E inhibitor encorafenib with or without the MEK inhibitor binimetinib in comparison with standard therapy in BRAFV600E-mutated metastatic colorectal cancer patients who had disease progression after one or two previous regimens [9]. The gene discussed is EGFR; the disease is metastatic colorectal cancer.
