ANKHD1 and cancer: In 2006, Traina et al. published their study demonstrating that ANKHD1 has a role in regulating cell cycle proliferation in leukaemic cell lines and hypothesized that ANKHD1 may act to drive the proliferation of cancer cells [33]—a suggestion supported by the subsequent demonstration that increased ANKHD1 levels are sufficient to drive cellular proliferation whilst having no effect on apoptosis [13].
