It has been experimentally demonstrated that the endothelium-derived NO-induced vasodilation impaired by preeclampsia is also associated with increases in vascular contractions [5,22] and that this preeclampsia-induced vascular dysfunction may also be related to decreases in the proteolytic activity of important proteases involved in the vascular remodeling, such as extracellular matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) [23,24,25,26]. Here, MMP2 is linked to preeclampsia.
