Significant differences in the levels of inflammatory biomarkers and metabolic parameters in moderate or severe COVID-19 patients (with diabetes/obesity) have been described: in contrast to infected subjects without these comorbidities, the diabetic/obese patients with severe COVID-19 presented a significantly increased leukocyte count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimers, and serum glucose concentration [18]. Here, CRP is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
