In addition to the direct effects of FABP4 on endometriosis by targeting endometrial cells, a clinical study found that adipose tissues adjacent to the endometriotic lesions also exhibited higher FABP4 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression levels [60], suggesting FABP4 may promote fat fibrosis to induce endometriosis.
