FABP4 and metabolic disease: Minimal changes in weight and morphology were observed between FABP4−/− fetuses and wild type littermates, and similarities were noted in both maternal serum and fetal hepatic total cholesterol (TC) levels among the different genotypes [13], indicating that FABP4 deficiency did not impact the supply of TC to the developing fetus and predisposing offspring to metabolic diseases later in life.
