The most severe animal diseases are caused by enterohemorrhagic (producing shiga-toxin Stx1 and/or Stx2 that stop protein synthesis in endothelial target cells) and enterotoxigenic (producing enterotoxin EAST1 and/or enterohemolisin EhxA) E. coli strains [15,37,38,39].
