S100A8 and Sepsis: The calgranulins, which includes S100A8 (calgranulin A) and S100A9 (calgranulin B) that together form a heterodimer known as S100A8/A9 or calprotectin, and S100A12 (calgranulin C), are especially related with different inflammatory conditions, immune-mediated diseases, and sepsis [3,4,5] and are considered as biomarkers of interest in humans [6].
