Studies have shown that crocin has a good neuroprotective effect on rotenone-induced PD by activating the phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt)/mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) axis and enhancing miR-7 and miR-221 [45]. Here, AKT1 is linked to Parkinson disease.
