In this particular paper, it was revealed that ExoACE2, which is upregulated in the blood of COVID-19 patients, comprises part of the activation of the innate immune system, since ExoACE2 inhibits SARS-CoV-2 infection by competing with host-cell-surface ACE2, provoking an inhibition of the viral load of SARS-CoV-2 and variants, and, consequently, being part of the innate antiviral mechanism through the viral neutralization effect of human plasma. This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and COVID-19.
