MSCs derived from the bone marrow of osteoporosis patients revealed a similar morphology and surface markers compared to cells isolated from healthy individuals and, at the same time, lower proliferation rates in response to insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF1) and a deficient osteogenic potential due to an upregulated expression of alkaline phosphatase and calcium phosphate deposition [40].
