CRP and infection: The parameters indicating severe infection were worse in the sepsis group: white blood cell (13.3 × 103/μL vs. 8.5 × 103/μL, p < 0.001), delta neutrophil index (4.0% vs. 1.5%, p < 0.001), lactate (2.4 vs. 1.3 mmol/L, p < 0.001), C-reactive protein (102.9 vs. 44.9 mg/L, p < 0.001), and procalcitonin (1.80 vs. 0.50 ng/mL, p < 0.001); the platelet count (121 × 103/μL vs. 151 × 103/μL, p = 0.001) was lower in these patients.
