Medications for T2D are classified into the following categories depending on the mechanism of action: insulin secretion stimulators (i.e., sulfonylurea), insulin sensitivity improvers, liver gluconeogenesis inhibitors (i.e., metformin), and glucose absorption inhibitors/glucosidase inhibitors (i.e., acarbose) with or without insulin injection [12,13,14].
