MIF has been implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple organ-specific autoimmune diseases including type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Guillain–Barr’esyndrome, Crohn’s disease, autoimmune myocarditis, glomerulonephritis, hepatitis, thyroiditis, and psoriasis [34].
