Several groups, including ours, demonstrated that the mammalian orthoreovirus type 3 Dearing strain (hereafter reovirus), which possesses a 10 segmented double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) genome of approximately 1–3 kb in length significantly reduced HIF-1α protein levels in cultured cells and mouse subcutaneous tumors following infection [10–13].
