IFNA1 and COVID-19: The current study provides insights in the immunomodulatory mechanisms of dexamethasone in the context of COVID-19 and suggests that while dexamethasone can efficiently abrogate the immune hyperresponsiveness observed in hospitalized COVID-19 patients with increasing disease severity through the modulation of IFN-related signaling and cytokine secretion, the inhibition of IFN responses in early stages of the disease could have adverse effects in COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms.
