Elevated levels of inflammatory markers such as interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8,interferon (IFN), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), C-reactive protein, D-dimer, andlactate dehydrogenase were found in individuals with DS and COVID-19.27,30,35,39,41,44,51,65–67 Individuals with DS tended to have a higher early initial response toinfection, especially through the action of IFNs, which could theoreticallycontain the viral spread.
