TRIM32 and nerve compression syndrome: TRIM32 encodes human tripartite motif family of proteins 32 (TRIM32), a ubiquitous multifunctional protein that has roles in muscle homeostasis, glucose metabolism, and both tumor suppression and tumourigenesis.35 Neurons from the brains of TRIM32 knockout mice have reduced neurofilament protein expression, suggesting a role for TRIM32 in neuronal maintenance.36 As extracranial nerves isolated from migraineurs exhibit neurofilament disruption and dysregulated myelination,7 TRIM32 may be tentatively implicated in entrapment neuropathies by means of a role in neuronal maintenance.
