Extending upon these observations, our own more recent studies indicate that assembly of a dense CD44 anchored HA glycocalyx is a consistent feature of metastatic MDA MB 231 and MCF-7 breast carcinomas but not poorly metastasizing SKBR3 cells, and that MDA MB 231 and MCF-7 cells both adhere and transit human LEC monolayers via LYVE-1 transmigratory cups similar to those formed by transmigrating DCs (Johnson and Jackson unpublished). Here, CD44 is linked to breast carcinoma.
