Importantly, GWAS of 2000 PBC patients identified a susceptibility locus on chromosome 3q13.33, which indicates that increases in the expression of POGLUT1, which encodes a protein-O-glucosyltransferase that modifies NOTCH receptors, may be an effector of PBC pathogenesis in vivo (Hitomi et al., 2019). Here, POGLUT1 is linked to primary biliary cholangitis.
