MAPT and tauopathy: Injections of both synthetic tau fibrils and tau-containing brain extract into the mouse brain can induce the formation of tau aggregates that propagate to connected areas and recapitulate the hallmark lesions of the associated tauopathy (Ahmed et al., 2014; Boluda et al., 2015; Clavaguera et al., 2009, 2013; Guo et al., 2016; Iba et al., 2013, 2015; Kaufman et al., 2016; Narasimhan et al., 2017; Peeraer et al., 2015; Sanders et al., 2014; Stancu et al., 2015).
