Accumulation of tau aggregates in neurofibrillary tangles is one of the hallmark pathologies of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and correlates strongly with disease progression, neurodegeneration and cognitive decline (Arriagada et al., 1992; Bejanin et al., 2017; Giannakopoulos et al., 2003; Gordon et al., 2018; Honer, 2003; La Joie et al., 2020; Nelson et al., 2012). The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
